Does Fred Thompson have a chance to be elected president?

I saw the most recent South Carolina poll and Fred Thompson has pulled ahead of Rudy Giuliani by 25% to 22%. All the other Republicans have less than 10%. Thompson seems to appeal to conservatives more than any of the other candidates.
