Mt. Rainier is a subduction zone Stratovolcano & I believe its potential eruption is similar to St. Helens' Plinian eruptions. Of course there is potential for Subglacial Phreatomagmatic eruptions because of the presence of glaciers on Mt. Rainier. The biggest threat from Rainier to the surrounding areas are from Lahars through the river valleys of the Carbon, Puyallup, Mowich, Nisqually, and Cowlitz Rivers. It is also capable of pyroclastic flow and lava, as well as significant ash clouds.
